Our KGE Standard Oboe Reed is a Medium-strength oboe reed made by KGE in Shanghai, a specialist double-reed workshop known for consistent, predictable reeds. If reed-to-reed reliability is what you're after, the KGE Standard is the one to look at.

What KGE do differently

Most of the reeds we stock are hand-finished by a professional oboist, with all the small refinements that come with that approach. KGE take a different route: a workshop process designed for repeatability rather than individual touch. You give up some of the nuance a hand-finishing oboist brings, but you gain reed-to-reed consistency that's harder to achieve in a smaller workshop. Some players genuinely prefer that predictability.

The reed itself

Medium strength, with the blue and black thread binding KGE are known for. Both the cane and the staple are made in-house at the KGE workshop. The finished reed is 72mm long on a 47mm staple, the standard British format that fits most modern oboes.
