Dorado Oboe Reed by Crook & Staple

After a brief initial soak both reeds have sounded good but one was playing a bit flat to start. This now seems to be improving, but of course much of the fault could be with the player!

Dorado Oboe Reed by Crook & Staple

I ordered two of these MS reeds on 15/2 but when I tried to blow them, after soaking, they were very hard and almost unblowable. I left a chat message on 22/2 requesting advice but no one responded. Today 27/2 I phoned for advice but after holding for 10 minutes I was cut off. Not very impressed and just giving 2 stars because delivery was prompt.

I bought 1 dorado and 2 academy reeds. I'm an occasional player and generally like a medium hard reed. The dorado is slightly softer than the academy but both suit me well. Very prompt service. It would be nice if they arrived in little plastic tubes rather than loose in cotton wool.

Perfect - didn’t need any adjustment

Because of covid 19, the delivery is much later than expected. Further to our questioning, the staff was helpful to chase the order with the post office. Coz the reeds are not sent with a traceable postage service, they have difficulties to check the status. Luckily we received it at the end. Anyway, thanks very much for the help from the staff and appreciated on his patience to answer me. About the reeds, we have not started using it, so not able to comment at this moment.

First time I've bought this reed to compare. It has a lovely tone and tuning and appears to have been made well. Quite easy to blow and I think it will blow in well. If they are all like this I would recommend you try them.

Not blown a Dorado before. Found it rather hard but with some shaving its coming along. Final judgement reserved.

Definitely needed a few adjustments, but it worked out really well in the end! Cane was very high quality and rolled right off.
