I have a thumb rest with a ring and was using a clarinet thumb cushion because there were none for oboe at my local music store. I was so excited to see people made things like this and I am glad I bought it!

Oboe thumb rest
Very well made but doesn't fit my instrument very well (Buffet Crampon Paris, actually made in Austria). Recess not deep enough and had to carve 2 corners off to enable me to engage hook of my neck strap.
Dear Eric,
It is a good job you are creative enough to make this work for you! Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, hopefully other players potentially in the same position will take inspiration and make it work for them too.
Happy comfortable oboe-ing!
Eliza @ Crook & Staple
Always consistent shape and curvature, with a central line for folding accurately. The hardness does vary of course - this time one out of the five pieces was almost too hard to be useable - but the rest make good reeds with very little extra scraping. Package arrived promptly from Crook and Staple.
I have had 2 of these reeds. They are both easy blowers for the low notes but not as good for the high (third octave F). Having said this, I don't have a third octave key on my oboe - maybe this particular reed needs that?
Great buy for the newbie to Reed scraping/ adjustment.
As a ‘newbie’ to adjusting/ repairing this convex ebony oboe plaque was a great, inexpensive purchase.
It really does support the reed, is very forgiving when scraping and is quite reassuring working with the reed. For me, a bargain buy as I’ve successfully improved reeds without splitting them and I put this down to using this plaque.
The reed place beautifully but it is loose and I’ve emailed to ask about this and tried to ring but no luck speaking to anyone or haven’t had a reply to my email so I feel a bit disappointed
I've dabbled with double reeds in the past, so I had some sort of embouchure already. This intermediate reed has been perfect for me starting serious study; not too honky like a soft beginner reed and not too stubborn to speak like a more advanced reed. Horses for courses, but this one was just right for me at my stage of development.
