The plastic imitation reed knot replaces the thread wrapping. You only have to put the first wire on (the one next to the reed blade). When this first wire is in place, put some adhesive on the reed and slide the plastic imitation knot over the reed. Then put the mandrel inside of the reed in order to press the cane against the inside of the plastic knot.

We then suggest leaving the reed to dry on a drying rack to that as the glue sets you are left with a well formed tube at the base and middle of the reed.
